  • Virginia A. “Ginny” Lyon, 92, formerly of North Main St., passed away Saturday afternoon (Nov. 23, 2013) at Absolut at Three Rivers in Painted Post. Born in Coudersport, Pa. on Nov. 3, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Genevieve Baker Adams. On March 20, 1943, she was married to the Rodney “Jack” Lyon, who predeceased her on Sept. 29, 2008 after 65 years of marriage. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her step father, Harvey Thomas; her sister and brother-in-law, Delores “Tootsie” and Dale McDougal; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Roy and Ethel Lyon, Mae and Shirley VanScoter, Betty and Howard Quanz, Roy Zimmer and Stanley Clark. For many years, Ginny was employed by Beauty Counselor selling makeup and also assisted her husband pumping gas at the Atlantic Arco Station in Avoca. She was also a homemaker who was very artistic and talented in decorating her home. Ginny was active in the community and was a member of the former Avoca Presbyterian Church, the Avoca-Wallace Lions Club and the Eastern Star Lodge, where she served as a matron of the Twilight Chapter and as District Deputy Grand Matron of the Steuben District. Ginny dearly loved her family and all animals. Her loving family includes her daughter and son-in-law, Terry and Doug Heinemann of Avoca; her sister-in-law, Ruth Zimmer Clark of Wayland; also her nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their appreciation to Absolut at Three Rivers for all the loving care she received. Calling hours were from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday, November, 27, at the Avoca Funeral Home, 22 N. Main St., Avoca, where a funeral service was held following calling hours at 2 p.m., with Pastor Barre Butts officiating. Committal services and interment followed at Valley View Cemetery, Avoca. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to the Finger Lakes SPCA, 7315 State Route 54, Bath, N.Y. 14810.
