  • John F. Trenchard, 79, passed away peacefully December 6, 2013 at the Homestead Nursing Home in Penn Yan.
A memorial service will be held at St. Michael's Cemetery in the spring. Donations may be made in John's honor to St. Michael's Catholic School, 210 Keuka St., Penn Yan, NY 14527,or the Penn Yan Academy Athletics Dept., 305 Court St., Penn Yan, NY 14527.
Born August 8, 1934, John lived his whole life in Penn Yan, where he was an ardent fan of the local sports teams. He was honored a few years ago for his years of volunteer service with the teams.
A life-long parishioner of St. Michael's Catholic Church, he greeted parishioners most Sundays in his role as usher. John was very appreciative of the rides Steve Breuer and other ushers gave him that made the continuation of his volunteer work possible.
John served in the U.S. Army and retired from NYSDOT/Highway Division. In his younger years, John enjoyed living on Keuka Lake and could frequently be seen cruising the lake in his boat. He was always eager to engage in a conversation about the many sports teams he fallowed, and was frequently seen walking back and forth from his home on Sylvan Drive to his many stops downtown.
John's parents, Jack and Margaret, predeceased him. He is survived by cousins, Ane Powers of Washington, D.C.; Karen Powers of Trurmansburg; Tom Powers of San Francisco, Calif.; and Aly Powers of Melbourne, Australia.
The family would like to thank the staff of Clinton Crest and the Homestead for the sensitive care they provided John.
