Steuben County's unemployment rate fell slightly in November, according to figures released this week by the New York State Department of Labor.

Steuben County had an unemployment rate of 7.9 percent for November, down from 8 percent in October and down from 9.2 percent in November 2012. That ranks Steuben 51st out of the state's 62 counties. There are 40,000 people employed in Steuben's labor force.

Chemung County's unemployment rate was 7.3 percent for November, down from 7.8 percent in October and 8.2 percent in November 2012. Chemung was tied for 41st among New York counties.

Schuyler County's unemployment rate was 6.8 percent, up from 6.6 percent in October but down from 7.8 percent in November 2012. Schuyler was tied for 28th among New York counties.

Tompkins County again had the lowest unemployment rate in New York, at 4.4 percent.

The unemployment rate in the Southern Tier was 6.6 percent for November, down from 6.9 percent in October and 7.7 percent in November 2012.

The statewide unemployment rate was 6.9 percent, down from 7.5 percent in October and 7.9 percent in November 2012. The state added 4,300 jobs in November and 141,700 over the past year, bringing the state's job count to an all-time high of 7,493,500, according to the state Department of Labor.

The U.S. unemployment rate was 6.6 percent, down from 7 percent in October and 7.4 percent in November 2012.
