  • A Canisteo man is facing charges for allegedly breaking into his ex-girlfriend's house and striking her several times, according to Bath-based New York State Police.
A toddler was cut by flying broken glass during the incident, which occurred Dec. 19 in Wheeler, state police report.
Kenneth R. Mikko, 26, was charged with second-degree burglary, second-degree harassment, endangering the welfare of a child, and fourth-degree criminal mischief.
Investigators say Mikko went to his former girlfriend's home in the Town of Wheeler on Dec. 19 and attempted to enter, but she wouldn't let him in.
Mikko allegedly broke a window while trying to get in, and flying glass struck a 1-year-old child, causing a minor cut to the child's ear.
Mikko then allegedly kicked a door open, went inside the home and struck his ex-girlfriend several times.
He also allegedly damaged property and threatened the occupants of the residence before fleeing when police were called.
Mikko was arraigned in Urbana Town Court and sent to Steuben County Jail on $10,000 bail.
Bath state police were assisted in the investigation by the Steuben County District Attorney's Office and Steuben County Child Protective Services.
