MONTOUR FALLS | An afternoon fire at a Hanrahan Road home in Montour Falls left one resident homeless. The Montour Falls Fire Department responded to the home at 1360 Hanrahan Road in Montour Falls Friday after the home's sole resident reported the blaze, which is said to have started in the basement. Ray Smith, first assistant fire chief with Montour Falls Fire Department, was first on scene and said the fire was fully involved upon arrival. The home is considered a total loss. The Red cross is currently assisting the displaced resident with food and shelter. According to news partner WETM-TV, tankers of water had to be brought in from more than a mile away in order to control the fire. Montour Falls firefighters were assisted on the scene by the Odessa, Horseheads and Watkins Glen fire departments. Also responding were the New York State Police and the Schuyler County Sheriff's Department, among others. The cause of the fire is not yet known and is currently under investigation.
