  • Sen. Tom O'Mara, R-Big Flats, unveiled Monday an online survey that allows area residents to weigh in on the challenges facing the region and New York state this year.
The survey coincides with a new session of the state Legislature, which kicks off Wednesday when Gov. Andrew Cuomo delivers his fourth State of the State message to a joint session of the state Senate and Assembly.
The "2014 Community, Jobs and Economy Survey" can be found on O'Mara's website at www.omara.nysenate.gov. Residents are asked to share their views and make suggestions about economic and fiscal issues as well as specific issues including hydrofracking, the NY SAFE Act, Common Core and mandate relief. The closure of the Monterey Shock Incarceration Correctional Facility in Schuyler County will also be included in the list of topics.
"This online survey provides another venue to encourage local input on a number of the key economic, fiscal and other challenges facing our region and the state as a whole in 2014," said O'Mara in a press release. "I'm always grateful for the input."
O'Mara's 58th Senate District includes all of Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben and Yates counties, and sections of Tompkins County.
