  • READING | An Elmira teen was rescued Sunday on Seneca Lake after his kayak capsized.
The Schuyler County Sheriff's Office said they received a call at about 12:45 p.m. that a subject was in the water along Salt Point Road in the Town of Reading.
The sheriff's office says Chris Burnell, 17, was duck hunting with friends and had entered the water in a kayak to retrieve a duck when the craft capsized.
Responders discovered the man clinging to the overturned kayak when they arrived at the scene.
Bystanders and Schuyler County Sheriff's deputies brought Burnell to shore, and he was transported to Schuyler Hospital where he was treated and released.
Sheriff's deputies were assisted at the scene by the Watkins Glen Police Department, Watkins Glen Fire Department and Schuyler County Ambulance.
