A fire Thursday morning in the Town of Wheeler destroyed a small barn and some expensive property.
The Bath Volunteer Fire Department responded at just after 7 a.m. to a report of smoke coming from a small barn at 8467 State Route 53. A passerby saw the smoke and notified the homeowner.
The property belongs to Theodore and Barbara Bailey.
Despite efforts by responders from the Bath VA, Hammondsport, Avoca, Kanona and Prattsburgh, the barn was a total loss.
Inside was a car, several ATVs and a large amount of tools and equipment.
One firefighter at the scene suffered minor injuries from a fall in the icy conditions, and Bath Volunteer Fire Department officials said the response was hampered by the extreme cold weather.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
