Phyllis M. Stopka, 72, of 47 Geneva Street, passed away suddenly on February 16, 2014 at her home.
She was born October 13, 1941 at home on Wolf Run Road in the town of Campbell, NY the daughter of George and Orah Hargrave Stopka.
Phyllis had worked at Westinghouse for many years, then as a nurse’s aide at both the Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital and the Bath V.A. Center where she proudly cared for returning Veterans from Vietnam.
She loved her children and all animals, helping anyone she could. She was known by many of the younger people that she offered help and advice to as “Ma”.
She was a member of the ASPCA and a proud supporter of the Paralyzed Veterans of America.
Surviving are her daughters, Kim Lydick of Florida, Kelly Alderman, and Jodie Stopka both of Bath, and her son, Jamie Stopka of Bath; Sisters Judy Cagle and Ramona Burlew both of Bradford and Darlene Chase of Bath; Brother Eldred Stopka of Bath 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was pre-deceased by her parents George and Orah, her son-in law Ronnie Lydick and granddaughter Katelyn Lydick.
The service was held Friday, February 21st at the LaMarche Funeral Home of Hammondsport. Funeral services took place at 4 p.m., John Maddren officiated.
Memorials should be made in her name to the Finger Lakes Humane Society.
