  • Fans can hit the track in their own cars at WGI this weekend

  • Watkins Glen International will kick off a busy summer of racing with its annual Opening Weekend, a charity event in which fans can take to the historic Schuyler County race track in their own vehicles.

  • Watkins Glen International will kick off a busy summer of racing with its annual Opening Weekend, a charity event in which fans can take to the historic Schuyler County race track in their own vehicles.
    The gates open at 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, and fans can take paced laps from 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
    Fans can drive the Grand Prix course, and buy photos of themselves navigating the track from Track Time Photos. Fans can also pose for photos in Gatorade Victory Lane.
    Proceeds from this year’s Opening Weekend will go to Autism Speaks, an autism research and advocacy organization.

    • WGI will host the annual Green Grand Prix on Friday, featuring fuel-efficiency competitions and alternate-fuel vehicles on display. For more details, go to www.greengrandprix.com.
    • The International Motor Racing Research Center on 12th Street in Watkins Glen will host a model race car show from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
