  • Joshua Spears, 30, of 2 Steuben St., Avoca, was charged Monday with animal cruelty, a misdemeanor, after Steuben County animal cruelty investigator Scott Mazzo received a complaint about a very skinny dog at a Campbell residence.
Spears allegedly failed to provide adequate food for the dog, according to a release by the Finger Lakes SPCA.
The dog, a tan mastiff mix named Clay, was surrendered to the SPCA on Sept. 25, 2013. Clay is currently up for adoption at the shelter in Bath.
Spears will appear May 3 in Thurston Town Court.
