  • Steuben County officials will be conducting a test at 2 p.m. Thursday of a new system designed to notify residents in the event of an emergency.
The system, called CodeRED, will allow officials to rapidly send phone calls, text messages, emails and social media messages to affected residents.
County officials said they plan to use the system in case of hazardous material evacuations, flood or other emergencies.
While they already have a database of residential and business telephone numbers, they’re asking residents to visit their website at www.steubencony.org and click the CodeRED button or call 664-2996 (8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday) to notify them if your primary phone is a cell phone or VOIP (internet phone), or add more information such as email addresses.
They also encourage those with unlisted numbers or whose phone number or address has changed within the last year to contact them with updated information.
Those with questions about the system can call the phone number above or email codered@co.steuben.ny.us.
