Two people are hospitalized in critical condition after a vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer Wednesday evening in Alpine Junction, according to the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office.

Michael Laspino, 27, of Odessa, and Ronald Johnson, 58, of Sanford, Fla., were listed in critical condition Thursday at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pa.

Laspino was driving east on State Route 224 around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday when he collided with a tractor-trailer headed south on State Route 13 at the Alpine Junction intersection, located in the Town of Cayuta, deputies report. Johnson was a passenger in Laspino’s vehicle.

Both Laspino and Johnson were airlifted to Robert Packer Hospital after the crash.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, F.H. Dubois, 37, of Cameron Mills, was treated and released at the scene, deputies report.

There is a traffic light at the intersection.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

The Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the New York State Police Truck Enforcement Unit.
