  • Keep your wading boots out and your pumps in operation because the National Weather Service reports the area is still under a Flash Flood Watch, which is in effect for all of Western Finger Lakes until Friday.
Mitch Guilt, a hydrometeorological technician at the Binghamton National Weather Service, says there is potential for a thunderstorm this afternoon. He says things “don’t look too bad” for Thursday, but cautions that there is potential for heavy rain again Friday morning. With the damage to roads, driveways and culverts already, additional heavy rain could cause more damage.
Guilt says radar indicates the heaviest rainfall last night occurred near Yatesville, where about 6 inches fell last night. In Penn Yan, he estimates at least 3 to 4 inches fell. The weather station at the Penn Yan airport measured 2.92 inches he says.
The National Weather Service maintains a facebook page where you can find out the latest news. Alerts and information will also be posted here, and on The Chronicle-Express facebook page and at PennYanNYnews on Twitter.
