Raymond B. Hughes, 67, of Hammondsport, NY, passed away of natural causes at his home on July 6, 2014.
Raymond B. Hughes, 67, of Hammondsport, NY, passed away of natural causes at his home on July 6, 2014. He was born on June 7, 1947, the son of Marion F. and Claude F. Hughes. He graduated from Hammondsport Central School in 1965, attended SUNY Cobleskill, where he majored in Agriculture, and was a member of Theta Gamma Epsilon, before being critically injured as a passenger in a car accident, that left him with lifelong leg problems. He later graduated from Corning Community College. He was a kind and generous soul, who dedicated his life to growing grapes for Finger Lakes wineries. He was also a devout Christian, who obtained his certification as a Lay Minister. Raymond was predeceased by his parents, his older brother Claude B. Hughes, and great-nephew, Camden P. Hughes. He will be deeply missed by his loving daughter, Heather R. (Nathan) Sensabaugh, as well as his sisters, Jan Wagner and Durinda Hughes, both of Hammondsport, Dedra Willhoite, of Austin, Texas, two aunts, a niece, three nephews and several cousins and friends. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, July 12, from 4pm-10pm, above McGregor's Vinyards, 5503 Dutch Street, in Dundee, NY. Calling hours will be held at Mitchellsville Methodist Church, 8421 County Rte. 13, Bath, NY, from 1pm-3pm on Sunday, July 13, with a memorial service directly following.
