  • Police: Corning man stole taxi

  • A Corning resident was arrested Sunday after allegedly stealing a taxi.
    Robert A. Scheer, 27, of 319 Walter Smith Terrace, was charged with second-degree robbery and driving while ability impaired by drugs.
    Corning Police said Scheer stole a mini-van owned by the Corning Cab Co. from the Byrne Dairy parking lot on Pulteney Street at around 3:20 a.m.
    The cab was later found unoccupied and with its doors open on Wardell Street. Scheer was located at the corner of Wardell Street and Dodge Avenue and transported by Rural/Metro Ambulance to Corning Hospital for treatment, police said.
    Scheer was later released from the hospital and arraigned. He was sent to Steuben County Jail on $11,000-$22,000 bail.
