  • An intensive search took place Friday for a missing Prattsburgh man who was recently paroled.
The man, Todd A. Casciani, 45, left a home on Cook School Road in the Town of Prattsburgh around 9:30 a.m. Monday to go for a walk and didn’t return, according to the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office.
    Family members called police Thursday.
An investigation began, and a limited ground search of the area was conducted Thursday afternoon.
A more extensive search of the rugged, wooded area around the intersection of Cook School Road and Gay Road was organized Friday morning.
The search involved 11 members of the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, nine members of the Prattsburgh Volunteer Fire Department, seven troopers from the New York State Police, two members of the New York State Forest Rangers, and three members of the Tompkins County Search and Rescue Team.
The search involved a state police helicopter, canine units, ATVs and other off-road vehicles.
After three hours of searching by ground and air, Casciani wasn’t located and the search was called off.
Casciani was paroled from state prison about six months ago after serving time for criminal possession of a forged instrument and attempted grand larceny, according to state Department of Corrections records.
He missed a scheduled meeting with his parole officers on Tuesday, and is now wanted as a parole absconder.
However, Friday’s search was a missing person search, and wasn’t conducted because he missed his parole meeting, said Capt. Eric Tyner, senior investigator with the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office.
Casciani is a Level 3 sex offender, having been convicted of sexually abusing a 9-year-old girl in 1999, according to state Division of Criminal Justice Services records.
Casciani is 5-foot-7, 130 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a white t-shirt under a gray sweatshirt, tan baseball hat and camouflage boots.
Anyone with information on Casciani’s whereabouts is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 622-3911 or make an online report at www.steubencony.org/Sheriff
