  • A former treasurer of the Almond Volunteer Fire Dept. was charged Friday with stealing $22,000 from the department, state Comptroller Tom DiNapoli said.
Sally Dieter, 40, allegedly pocketed fundraising proceeds and wrote several checks to herself. She is charged with third-degree grand larceny, a Class D felony.
An audit and investigation by the fire department discovered Deiter failed to make $18,500 in deposits for fundraising proceeds, wrote herself a check for $1,500 and made unsubstantiated withdrawals from department accounts for $2,000, DiNapoli said.
She will appear in Almond Town Court on Sept. 8.
