A teenager was killed Sunday evening in a one-car accident in Prattsburgh that is being blamed on excessive speed.

Brandon Lass, 17, of Prattsburgh, was killed in the crash, which occurred shortly before 6 p.m. on Pressler Road, according to Bath-based New York State Police.

Lass was driving a pickup truck north on Pressler Road when he failed to negotiate a right-hand curve, went off the road and struck a tree, according to Inv. Jason Wood.

Lass was pronounced dead at the scene by Steuben County Coroner’s Physician Dr. Robert Cole, and his body was taken to the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office in Rochester for an autopsy.

A passenger in the pickup truck, Alexander Lamphear, 17, of Prattsburgh, was taken to Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital in Bath for precautionary reasons. His injuries were not life-threatening, according to Inv. Wood.

State police determined speed to be a contributing factor in the accident. Alcohol was not believed to be involved.

Calling hours for Lass are set for 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Thursday at LaMarche Funeral Home in Hammondsport. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Hammondsport.
