  • A Canisteo man was killed Monday when the farm tractor he was driving overturned, pinning him underneath.
Kenneth B. Quick, 67, was killed in the accident, which occurred on his property on County Route 119 in the Town of Canisteo, according to the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office.
A family member called 911 to report the accident around 1:30 p.m. Monday.
Quick was using the tractor to clear scrap metal along an embankment between the Canisteo River and a Norfolk Southern railroad line, deputies report. The tractor struck a log laying in some vegetation, causing it to careen to the left, slide sideways down the embankment for about 25 feet, and overturn.
Quick was pinned beneath the seat and fender of the tractor and was unresponsive when emergency workers arrived, deputies report.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by Steuben County Coroner Brian May, and taken to the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office in Rochester for an autopsy.
Deputies are attributing the accident to operator error, but no witnesses have been located and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call Inv. Robert McDaniels at 622-3911 or make an anonymous report at www.steubencony.org/sheriff.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by New York State Police, the Canisteo Police Department, Canisteo Volunteer Fire Department and the Steuben County Coroner’s Office.
