  • Cohocton Town Clerk Sandra L. Riley has taken a medical leave of absence and is still employed by the town, Supervisor Jack Zigenfus said Wednesday.
In a fax to The Leader, Zigenfus also said the State Comptroller’s Office recently completed an audit of the town clerk/tax collector’s office.
“They advised us that once the findings are approved in Albany we would be informed of it,” he said in the fax. “As of this time, we have no information as to the results.”
Tuesday, a representative from the Comptroller’s Office told the Hornell Evening Tribune that an audit and investigation were underway.
While Riley, 50, of Cohocton, is on leave, deputy town clerks are filling in when possible, Zigenfus said. He asked residents to visit the town’s website, TownOfCohocton.com for office hours.
“The deputy town clerks are covering as many hours as they can at this time,” he said in the fax.
The Town Clerk’s Office has moved to the Cohocton Courthouse in Atlanta at the direction of the Town Board, Zigenfus said.
“We are sorry for any inconveniences but we need to keep all transactions in one location,” he said.
The office can be reached by calling 534-5100, Ext. 3, or by email at CohoctonClerk@aol.com.
