James Orme was named Firefighter of the Year  last Saturday at the Bath Volunteer Fire Department awards banquet.
Orme, a longtime member of the department, was an easy choice, said Chief Mark Conrad.
“(Orme) has shown an outstanding support to our department for many years, but this year he has outdone himself,” Conrad said. “He had asked not to be recognized but I feel the following should be acknowledged ...”
Orme plays a major role with the Tech Rescue Team, and assists with training, securing grants and seeking donations, Conrad said.
Cathy Shupp was named Firefly of the Year, an award given to a member of the Ladies Auxiliary.
Shupp, Auxiliary president, was honored for her service at department fundraisers, such as Bingo, chicken barbecues and raffles.
Jordan Humphrey was named Junior Firefighter of the year. Humphrey assisted on fire calls, drills and cleanup and volunteered at fundraisers. He will apply for membership this year when he turns 18, Conrad said.
“Jordan has gone above and beyond to be there whenever he has been needed,” Conrad said.
Honored for years of service were John Bogart, for 50 years, and John Conrad, who is stepping down as assistant chief after serving for more than 25 years. He will continue to volunteer and serve as the department’s public information officer. “It’s hard enough to get someone to be a member for 25 years let alone as an officer,” Mark Conrad said.
