Bernice F. Rock

BATH - Bernice F. Rock, age 96, of Bath, passed away at home on Saturday, September 30, 2006. She was born in Bath on February 24, 1910, to Samuel D. and Nellie B. French. She was predeceased by her husband, Howard J. Rock in 1993, and brother, Layton J. French in 1982.

Bernie is survived by her daughters; Julie Rock of Webster and Karen (James) Barbato of Fairport; grandchildren, Matthew (Katherine) Barbato of Dayton, Ohio, Andrew Barbato of Syracuse and Katherine Barbato of Philadelphia and Australian "daughter", Leonie Wall O'Driscoll.

She graduated from Hammondsport High School in 1928 and from Geneseo Normal School in 1931. She taught first grade for 23 years in Bath at the Dana Lyon School and V. E. Wightman Primary School retiring in 1965.

Bernie was active in many community organizations. A 70-year member of the First Presbyterian Church in Bath, she was one of the church's first lady elders and as former president of Ira Davenport Auxiliary, she organized the Willow Twig. She was also a Girl Scout leader for many years and past Regent of the Baron Steuben N.S. DAR. Bernie played in several bridge clubs in Hornell and Bath and still enjoyed the game at age 95.

A Memorial Service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Bath today Sunday, October 8, 2006 at 2 p.m.
