Barely Alive Kitten Found In A Recyclable Dumpster By Good Samaritans is RESCUED & SAVED!"
Innocent "Drake" (named after the person who found him) managed to muster enough energy to turn his head to let a Good Samaritan know he was alive in that recyclable bin. He couldn't firmly stand, couldn't open his eyes that were caked shut due to infection and couldn't help himself. Another kind person immediately drove the little baby to the SPCA all the way telling him to hang on. Upon arrival at the shelter, Drake's condition was quickly assessed as critical by shelter staff. He was extremely dehydrated, severely emaciated, very weak and appeared to be suffering from an upper respiratory infection. At the shelter, the excessive crusty matter was cleared away to reveal two very large and life filled golden eyes and Drake was wrapped in the fleece jacket of his rescuer. A can of food was opened and before the lid was off Drake immediately came to life. He was ravenously hungry. Despite his pathetic condition, this boy hadn't given up and was fighting to survive. While being offered all kinds of assurances by staff, this fellow was rushed to the local veterinary hospital. Upon exam, his temperature was so low it didn't even register on the thermometer. Nevertheless, Drake was assessed as likely free from serious disease and that given immediate medical treatment - fluids, warmth, antibiotics, food and TLC , he had a chance to make it. Drake was placed in foster care with his new best friend who gave up her fleece jacket, time off work and many hours of time to help save him. Although Drake had to make a few return trips to the veterinarian's office for more fluids and other antibiotics, he thrived in foster care. After one month from his arrival at the shelter, Drake was ready for a home. The kitten who weighed in at less than a pound, now weighed five. The kitten who could barely stand, now romped & purred loudly. And most importantly, a few days after his return to the shelter, the orphan kitten was adopted into a special home! "Drake's life was saved thanks to the compassion, kindness and generosity of many people"! He is just one of the many animal orphans helped by the shelter everyday We would like to thank all of our donors, volunteers, staff and concerned community members on behalf of our orphan animal friends for making this lifesaving work possible. Special thanks to Dr. Farmer for such compassionate and excellent veterinary care, Beverly and Kathy from Drake!
