Bath grad owns Cards' records for yards, TD
THE LEADER STAFF

NORTHFIELD, VERMONT - It seems that anywhere Mark Robinson plays, he wins, and breaks records.

The Bath Haverling graduate passed Jason Meyers as St. John Fisher's all-time leading rusher Saturday in the Cardinals' 32-0 win against Norwich University in an NCAA Division III football game, giving Fisher a 7-0 start to the season, also a school record. As a Ram, Robinson's name is all over the

record book for points scored and rushing yardage as the 5-11, 220-pound college senior carried Bath to three straight sectional titles and two appearances in the state tournament.

Now he's doing the same thing at Fisher, rushing for 4,294 yards in his career with three games left this season.

"It's a nice record to have, a lot of it goes to the offensive line and everyone who blocks in front of me, it's more of a team record," Robinson said Saturday by phone from the team bus. "It's nice to have my name up there, hopefully it stays there a while, but records are meant to be broken. We'll

see how long it lasts."

Robinson has also set St. John Fisher records for most points (330) and touchdowns (55) in a career, along with single-season records for attempts, yards and touchdowns - all set in 2004 as a college sophomore.

Meyers' record didn't last too long.

Meyers set the mark in 2003, when Robinson was a freshman, and three years later, the Bath native surpassed his predecessor, despite missing half of his junior season with a shoulder injury.

"I was questioning coming into camp how healthy my shoulder is going to be or if I was going to make it through the season," Robinson said. "Luckily we've had James Reile help me out in the backfield sharing carries with me.

The team's been doing great so far, the best start in school history right now. No complaints."

Saturday, October14 , Robinson ran for 109 yards on 21 carries with touchdown runs of 18 and 29 yards, while his backfield partner Reile rushed for 129 yards on 14 carries with a fourthquarter score.

The Cardinals recorded their third shutout of the season and came into the weekend ranked 11th in the country among the D-III schools. Fisher should climb up the poll when it's released Monday. Fisher finished 8-3 last season.

"The offense has always put up points since I've been here, this is the year we finally have the defense to help us out if you don't put 40 points on the board. That's been the biggest key so far, the defense," he said.

And Robinson hasn't lost sight of his alma mater, which is 6-1 and ranked 20th in the state among Class B schools. Bath sophomore running back Andre McCloud broke Robinson's freshman rushing record last season with more than 600 yards.

"The team is doing great, but they keep the Liberty St. celebrations for sectional championships and all that," Robinson said of, perhaps, the city celebrating his accomplishment. "Maybe when my career is over we can go down to Liberty and see what we can do. I'm going to root for the Rams, hopefully they can have the same sectional runs like we did."
