This 'Lyon' doesn't ever take a breather
To the Editor,

May our organization add several important comments to Rob Price's recent Leader and Courier news item, "Dana Lyon Controversy taking a breather?"

Contrary to the core of this article, the Save-the-Lyon Commission can never "take a breather" in an issue as vital as this particular one is to the Bath community.

When, and if, such a time might arrive that would place us in possession of the 1923 school addition (for whatever reason,) the first order of business would to establish machinery for a straw vote among citizens of Bath.

This straw vote would seek to know specific public needs that could be met by a totally refurbished building the size of the Dana Lyon School. Needs would be voter-prioritized and the results tallied, assessed, and analyzed. The Commission would present this data to a preservation Architect, preservation developer, management company, Village Planning Board, Mayor, Board of Trustees, and Code Enforcement officer. "If it is worth doing, it is worth doing well."

The public, however, must come first in such important matters that actually define a village's history, geography, architecture, skyline, economy, and quality of life.

Change is predestined and progress is essential. It is the "How" we go about the various stages of municipal growth that separates the "thrives and survivors" from the "nose-divers."
