Yesterday, sponsored by The American War Dads of Roswell-McDaniels American Legion #407, Hammondsport was a chicken BBQ fund raiser for their various missions from 2 p.m. until all was gone.

Vine City Chapter Order of the Eastern Star has learned that The Grand Chapter has amended the Constitution to read: "the Fiscal Year of a charted chapter shall close October 31." For Vine City this means that membership ends each year on November 30 not December 31. The Annual Meeting/Election of Officers take place the first meeting in November with Installation of Officers the second meeting in November.

Halloween, Tuesday, the 31st Curtiss Elementary students may only wear costumes that represent characters from their favorite books/stories or may choose to come as a favorite historical figure. Parents may contact their children's teacher for more about this. Thursday, November 2, there's a Freshman Field Trip and an Elementary Advisory Committee Meeting from 3:30-5

p.m. Friday, November 3 is the end of the 1st marking period; a Drama Club Performance, and Jr. High Area All-State, the latter two continuing

on Saturday.

Rotary Club Youth Exchange applications were on hand in the guidance office ready to be completed and returned to the Hammondsport Rotary Club, October 15 2006 for students aged 16-18 having an interest.

Curtiss Museum is always interested in persons who have the time and energy and willingness to volunteer as a volunteer in the well-known and well visited popular museum of local history. Some of the many volunteer opportunities available are docents/"Tour Guides" One may shadow adult and/or children's groups, whichever you like, for as long as one likes before getting one's feet wet. Contact the Education Director at the Museum: Jon Baldwin. Those who wold prefer a once-in-a-while volunteer work might think about helping at special events there - if so, contact Jean Doherty in the office. Those preferring to busy themselves for a few hours of light housekeeping like dusting, sweeping or vacuuming the exhibit areas,

Next Sunday, November 5 is the last day for the corning Embroiderer's Guild Exhibit which began there on September 22nd. Always a favorite for embroiderers, and artists among others, it has continued so again this year.

Church news: Pulteney Presbyterian church: Saturday, November 4, beginning at 4:30 p.m. is the annual Harvest Supper and Bazaar at the Pulteney Fire Hall on Brown Road. Turkey and all the trimmings, plus a bazaar and bake sale.

First United Methodist Church: Sunday, October 29, a 5th Sunday, of the month so there will be no Contemporary/Traditional service at the Church. Instead, there will be one service at 10 a.m. Junior Church/Nursery offered for babies and infants through 3rd grade.

In order to fully meet their daily challenges and opportunities in providing assistance to persons in need, Catholic/Turning Point is asking for help. You are asked to become a prayer partner with the Catholic Charities staff by committing yourself to pray with the staff daily at or around 8:50 a.m.

Presbyterian Church: The church has new lights downstairs in the main room, kitchen, office and back stairs. The church paid for the light fixtures from the building fund (monies raised with the summer strawberry shortcake sales) and used Deacon Memorial Funding mainly the generous donations from the family and friends of the late Laura Lobeck. Cost of the new lights: $1838. Thanks go to Bryan Braman for organizing/overseeing the purchasing, installation of the lights.

St. James Episcopal Church: The 2nd Annual Holiday Bazaar and Luncheon takes place at S. James, Saturday, November 4 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Between 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., a luncheon will be served. featuring clam chowder and homemade bread, chili, assorted sandwiches and beverages.

Among items at the bazaar Christmas Decorations, knitted and crocheted items, fleece hats, mittens, throws, pullovers, ponchos, gift food baskets, baked goods, candies, jams etc. Also needlework, table runners and place mats, and handmade soaps. Specialties include mission jewelry, a guilt raffle, white elephant table-silent auction.

At today's Sunday Holy Eucharist at 9 a.m., the following Lay Ministers are assisting: Chalice: N. Forenz; Acolytes: C. Skinner: Readers: C. Bidwell, John Rogerson; Ushers: J. and L. Grillo.

Word has been received from Steuben Church People Against Poverty that they want to take the opportunity to thank St. James church for their recent donation of personal care items to the NET Shelter and Domestic Abuse Program of SCAP, INC. Coordinator Cheryl Talbot, Coordinator, wrote: "Our clients are always thankful for the generosity of people like you. Thank you for your thoughtfulness."

St. Gabriel's Catholic Church: A job well done by the youth/children in the first Children's Mass of this 2006-2007 year. St. Gabriel's Fall Work Bee has been scheduled for Saturday, October 28, 2006 at 9 a.m. The more who come to winterize the buildings/ grounds the quicker it will be done. Men, women and children are all welcome to help. prior experience not required. Please bring your own tools.
