Book group

The staff of the Caregiver Resource Center of the Steuben County Office for the Aging can help you sort out the issues and make suggestions for improving elderly driving safety.

Legion Auxiliary

The American Legion Auxiliary of Unit 173 meets every second Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the Charles Wescott Post on William Streeet in Bath.

Farmer's market

Farmer's markets are held every Wednesday and Saturday in both Bath and Hammondsport. Fresh fruit and vegetables, flowers, baked goods, and handcrafted items will be available.

 Hammondsport farmer's market will be held at Liberty Park, Lake Street on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 Bath farmer's market will be held at Pulteney Park, Liberty Street on Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Can and bottle donations

The Bath Band Boosters are requestion donations of cans and bottles to be brought to the collection cage, located at the Robie Street entrance to the Haverling High School. The money will go towards new band uniforms.

Country bazaar

Plans and work shops are being held to hold another old fashioned country bazaar this fall from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, November 17 and Saturday, November 18 at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Liberty Street, Bath. Chairman of the event is Barbara Fowler.

A varied menu will be serbed for the luncheon from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Homemade soups and made to order sandwiches and wraps will be prepared. Delicious pies and cakes will be available as well. A take out can be arranged for those who'd like it.

Cuba cheese will be sold and an array of baked goods, jams, and jellies will be on display to buy as gifts or for yourself.

The members of the church habe made numerous crafts to make this bazaar to not miss.

Bath senior trip

The Village and Town of Bath Senior Trip for November 28-29 will be an overnight to Christmas in Lancaster. The trip includes accommodations, two shows, dinner, and breakfast. Bus leaves at 8 a.m. on November 28, 2006.

Sign-ups will take place at the Bath Municipal Building at 1 p.m. on Monday, October 9, 2006.

SPCA donations

The Finger Lakes SPCA is requesting area residents to continue donating returnable cans and bottles to the shelter on State Route 54. The recyclable materials are a significant source of income for the SPCA.

Volunteers also are needed to assist in the delivery of returnable materials to recycling centers and in walking dogs and cleaning facilities. For further information, call 776-3039.

Spaghetti supper

 The John P. Eaton American Legion, Sons of the Legion and Auxiliary will hold a spaghetti dinner from 5-7 p.m. November 18 at the Legion Post, 145 Walnut St., Corning. The cost is free to all members whose dues (2007) are paid by November 11. Guests are $6 for donation per person.

For more information contact Mary Lou Belles at 936- 6166. The dinner is sponsored by the Legion family and will benefit Legion family projects.

Volunteers needed

 Steuben County Health Care Facility needs shoppers, visitors, and coffee hour hosts to serve the residents. Flexible, varied hours with these tasks.

 Catholic Charities needs volunteers to advocate for individuals or families through the Mentoring program. Schedule is flexible.

 Steuben Coordinated Transportation needs drivers to transport senior citizens from Avoca, Savona, and other areas to appointments. Mileage reimbursement is available.

 Office for Aging s Project Care needs volunteers to assist seniors in shopping and getting to medical appointments.

 Bath VA needs several volunteer drivers to pick up veterans for their medical appointments. Volunteers would have use of vehicles provided by the VA.

 Tax counselors are needed for two different programs during the tax season of 1/15/07 through 4/15/07. Volunteers are also needed as greeters and as a media person.

Living Nativity

The Cohocton Assembly of God will hold a drive through living nativity from 6:30-8:30 p.m. December 8, 9, and 10, at the Cohocton Assembly of God, 31 N. Dansville St. (Rt. 415.), Cohocton. For more information call 384-5952.

Craft fair

St. Mary's will hold a Christmas craft fair from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. November 19 at O' Malley Hall, 36 E. Morris St., Bath. Pictures with Santa will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Several vendors with gift ideas for all occasions will be available. Lunch menu, baked goods, raffles, free gift wrapping, and free coupons for children's meal at Old Country Buffet will also be available. National Family Caregiver Month

November is National Family Caregiver Month and the Steuben County Office for the Aging asks for area residents to join them in saluting the many dedicated caregivers of our community that make it possible for older adults to remain independent in their own homes. Caregivers help with errands, appointments, personal care, housekeeping, and much more. The Caregiver Resource Center provides support for caregivers through education, guidance, referrals, and encouragement. For more information call 664-2298. "Saluting Military Women" dinner

The Bath VA Medical Center and The Bath Chapter of Business Professional Women will hold a "Saluting Military Women" dinner and recognition from 6-8:30p.m. November 15 at the Bath Country Club, May Street, Bath. All area women veterans are invited to attend.

Handbag sale

The Davenport and Taylor Auxiliary will hold a handbag sale from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. November 14 at Ira Davenport Hospital.

Fashion and designer handbags, backpacks, luggage, briefcases, and billfolds will be available. Mastercard, Visa and personal checks will be accepted. Payroll deduction will be available for hospital employees.

The Single Adult Fellowship presents a dance at 7:30 p.m. November 18 featuring live music by San Antones at the First Presbyterian Methodist Church, Painted Post. Open to all divorced, widowed, separated, or never married. Must be 21 years of age to attend.

Holiday Fair

The Campbell Legion will hold a Holiday Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. November 25 at the Campbell Legion, Campbell. Many local venders will be available. A puppet show and youth group is planned to sing. Light lunch will also be available.

Holiday gift wrap

The annual Holiday Gift Wrap event will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Nov. 24-Dec. 2 and from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 3-24 at the Holiday Gift Wrap Booth in front of Barbara Moss, Center Court, Arnot Mall Big Flats.

Volunteers will wrap holiday gifts to raise funds for the Chemung-Schuyler- Steuben chapter of the American Cancer Society. The money is for cancer, research, advocacy, education, and services that benefit the Chemung, Schuyler, and Steuben communities.

The Pulteney Free Library will hold its annual meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14 at the Pulteney Town Hall. Volunteers will be recognized, a DVD of the Library's History and Highlights of 2006 will be given and Root Beer Floats will be served. Come join the library staff as they continue to celebrate their 125th year. Everyone is welcome. Bath Neighborhood Watch

The Bath Neighborhood Watch Organization will hold their monthly meeting on Wednesday, November 15 at 7 p.m. at Lakeview Apartments on Geneva St. All village residents are encouraged to attend. Saint Mary's will hold a Mass, Praise, and Worship at 7 p.m. November 15 at St. Mary's, Bath. A prayer for healing will follow. Fr. Phil Billotte will be the presider. Resource center grand opening

Families and residents of the Bath Central School District and surrounding communitites are invited to celebrate the grand opening of the Bath Area Family Resource Center from 5:15-6:30 p.m. November 15 at Vernon E. Wightman Primary School, Bath. A ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 5:30 p.m. and refreshments will be served.

Joy of giving

Bath Knights of Columbus are seeking toys for needy children and financial donations to provide food baskets for the elderly. Deposit new or good used toys in barrels located throught the area. The barrels are located at: North American Philips, Steuben County Office Building, Bath National Bank (West End and Hammondsport Offices), CVS Drugs, Eckerds, Save-A-Lot, KMart, P&C, Bath Legion, Steuben Trust.

Tax deductible financial can be sent to: Knights of Columbus, Council 5147, PO Box 745, Bath, NY 14810. For information about food baskets contact Rocco Angus at 583- 2021 between 4-8 p.m.

Sign-ups will be from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. November 25, December 1 and 9 at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 321 W. Washington St., Bath. To qualify for the Toy Program, you must be 10 years of age or younger and reside in the Bath Knights of Columbus District.

Santa's day off will be December 7 at Bath National Bank, Liberty Street.
