Karen J. (Van Gelder) Wilson

BATH - Karen J. (Van Gelder) Wilson, age 42 of Bath, and formerly of California Ave. Elmira Heights went home to be with her Lord while at the home of her parents and surrounded by her family on Wednesday, November 1.

Karen was born August 30, 1964 the daughter of Frank and Lamora (Frazier) Van Gelder with whom she recently resided in Bath; In addition to her parents, Karen is survived by her husband, James Wilson of Elmira Heights; Brothers and sisters-in-law, Jeff and Kim Van Gelder of Bath, Tim and Ronica Van Gelder of Knightdale, North Carolina; Niece and nephews, Erin, Bryan and Mitchell along with several extended family members, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Karen was an employee of Bethany Village for over 17 years. She was a graduate of Haverling High School and Corning Community College always pursing a care in Human Services. As a youth, she was a member of the Rainbow Girls and the High School Band. She was active at the Community Wesleyan Church in Horseheads, where she participated in the Drama and Music programs. Karen always had a deep love of family and friends while always remaining strong during her struggles and a constant reminder of her faith, never loosing sight of prayer and the trust in the Lord and his work. She was also a volunteer for the Muscular Dystrophy Telethon for 11 years and an accomplished poetry composer. She was a caring daughter, sister, friend and caregiver. She also always enjoyed the company of her cats.

Family and friends were invited to the Community Wesleyan Church 2095 Grand Central Ave. Horseheads, on Saturday, November 4 from 12:30 - 1 p.m. where a celebration of her life was held there at 1 p.m. with the Rev. James Swanson officiating. A time of food, fellowship and sharing was also held immediately following the service there in church.

Interment will take place privately at the convenience of her family in Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Hammondsport.
