Tampering with witness

New York state police last week charged Marcia Margeson, 31, of Green Acres Trailer Park, Bath, with fourth-degree tampering with a witness and endangering the welfare of a child.

Margeson allegedly tried to convince a juvenile witness in a criminal investigation to recant statements made supporting charges against the target of the investigation.

She was arraigned in Bath town court and released on her own recognizance, under orders to have no contact with the juvenile.

Fatality

A 47-year-old Hornell woman was killed Nov. 3 when the vehicle in which she was a passenger crashed into a large tree off county Route 87 in the Town of Wayne.

Donna Irizarry was pronounced dead at Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital, where she was transported from the wreckage.

According to Steuben County Sheriff 's deputies, Irizarry was a rear-seat passenger in a vehicle driven by Robert G. Buono, 68, of Canisteo. Buono was westbound on county Route 98 and approaching the intersection with Route 87 when he ran through a stop sign. His vehicle traveled across both lanes of Route 87, left the road surface and traveled about 80 feet through grass and small tress before colliding into the larger tree.

Buono was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital, and a frontseat passenger, Shelly Davis, 33, of Hornell, was airlifted to Arnot-Ogden Medical Center for treatment.

According to the Sheriff's Office, no criminal charges have been filed in connection with the accident. The office was assisted at the scene by state police, Hammondsport fire and ambulance services and the Wayne Fire Department.

I-86 accident

State police last week closed the east bound lanes of Interstate 86 between the Savona and Campbell exits after a tractor trailer veered from the westbound lanes, across the median strip and east bound lanes, and crashed into the Conhocton River. There were no injuries.

Eastbound traffic was rerouted for about six hours as crews cleaned the highway surface and removed the truck from the water. The investigation continues.
