Villge completes annexation of Mossy Bank Park
BY ROB PRICE THE LEADER

BATH - Bath village board members Monday finalized the annexation of the 170-acre Mossy Bank Park, capping a monthslong effort to make the property tax exempt.

Before the annexation, the property, although owned by the village, was located in the town of Bath and was subject to town, county and school taxes.

The town traditionally has forgiven taxes on the land. The Steuben County Legislature earlier this year forgave future taxes, leaving the Haverling school district the sole taxing entity. The village's most recent school tax bill for the park was more than $3,000.

Haverling school officials have warned the district will distribute the lost tax

revenue among residents, adding about 50 cents to the tax bill on every property worth $50,000.

The village board's action Monday follows an unanimous vote by the Bath town board last week agreeing to annexation.
