Bath mobile home gutted by fire
By Mary Perham The Leader

BATH - A Bath man escaped injury when his mobile home was gutted by

fire Tuesday afternoon.

Robert Wordon was alone in his home when the fire broke out around 3 p.m. Tuesday at 39 Denwood Terrace, according to Bath Volunteer Fire Deputy Coordinator Spence Longwell.

Neighbors reported hearing a loud noise before the fire broke out.

"I was sitting with my boyfriend and we heard a big boom," said Amanda Benedict. "We thought something had hit the house."

Benedict and her boyfriend then saw people running in the direction of Wordon's home.

Neighbors said Wordon was a "nice old man" who enjoyed working around the mobile home court and had just built on to his home. One of Wordon's brothers recently died and many of his brother's belongings were in the home when the fire broke out, they said.

"I just cried when I saw (the fire)," said Brittany Rinker, another neighbor. "I just felt so sorry for him."

Rinker said neighbors will do what they can to help Wordon, who is expected to stay with nearby family members.

Longwell said the investigation into the fire is continuing. It is not considered suspicious, he said.

Bath volunteers were assisted by volunteer firef i g h t e r s f r o m Hammondsport, Kanona, the Bath VA and Bath Ambulance.
