H. Easton Hammond
CAMPBELL - H. Easton Hammond age 93, of County Route 333 in Campbell, died Saturday, November 18 at Bethany Manor in Horseheads.

Easton was born in Elmira on November 5, 1913, to Harry and Grace (Chilvers) Hammond. Easton graduated from HHDS High and from the Elmira Business Institute. He married Elizabeth Baker in 1942 and was preceded in death by her in 2003. Easton served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, in the 2nd Airdrome Squadron in the Pacific. He retired from Scudder Motor Company as a bookkeeper and office manager after fifty years of service. He was also committed to the E.B Packard Hose Company of Campbell as a volunteer firefighter for over sixty years, and had been Assistant Chief for many years. He just received his 70 year service award from the Masonic Lodge in Savona and throughout the Steuben district. He

was famous for making the coffee. He was very committed to service and giving to his community, but didn't want recognition for what he did.

He is survived by two sons, Carl (Donna) Hammond of Horseheads and Jim (Nancy) Hammond of Wake Forest, North Carolina; one sister, Jeanette Webb of Elmira; a brother, Richard (Ollie) Hammond of Homosassa, Florida; his grandchildren, Ellen and Andrew Hammond; a sister-in-law, Doris Hammond of Frostproof, Florida; several nieces and nephews; and the breakfast crew at the Stonehouse Cafe. Easton was predeceased by a brother Albert Hammond, and a sister Louise Jack.

Calling hours were held on Friday, November 24 from 1 - 4 p.m. at Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 17 W. Pulteney Street in Corning, where a Masonic Service was conducted at 4 p.m.. Burial will be in Millport Cemetery.
