Health News Free sports medicine clinics sponsored by Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital will be held every Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. in the Rehabilitation Services Department. Call the sports medicine number at 776- UWIN to make your appointment. Blood pressure screenings Free blood pressure screenings will be offered on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month for the convenience of community residents who wish to monitor their blood pressure. The screenings will be available on the fourth Wednesday of each month. The screenings will be available from 2:30-3:30 p.m. in the Adult Day Care Department at Taylor Health Center. A monthly Blood Pressure Screening will be held the first Friday of every month in the main lobby at St. James Hospital. Chronic fatigue syndrome/ fibromyalgia A new support group for community members diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome or fibromyalgia. The group is scheduled to meet the third Tuesday of the month from 3-4 p.m. in the small cafeteria conference room at St. James Mercy Hospital. Understanding diabetes Every Wednesday - Understanding Diabetes - an outpatient Education Program meets 1-3 p.m. in the meeting room 1A at St. Joseph's. Call Cheryl Hollenbeck at 737-7800 for further information. Multiple sclerosis The Multiple Sclerosis meetings will be held the first Wednesday of every month at 10 a.m. at Friendly's in Hornell. The next meeting will be held on Dec. 6. Cardiac support The Cardiac Support Group will meet on the second Wednesday of every month at 6:30 p.m., in Cardiac Rehab, second floor, at St. James Hospital. Grief support A Grief Support Group will be offered on the second Wednesday of every month at 1 p.m. in the St. James Hospital Chapel. The new evening Grief Support Group; "Good Grief Group" will be held every other Monday evening at 7 p.m. in the Hospital Chapel on the ground floor. The group is designed to help individuals who have experienced a recent loss of a loved one, or are experiencing grief and are having difficulty with their loss. Financial Representatives will be available on the second Tuesday of every month to answer questions regarding hospital bills or Medicare at St. James Hospital. This is a free service offered to any individual and no appointment is necesssary. Brain injury Traumatic Brain Injury Support Group meeting will be held from 5:30-7 p.m. on the third Monday of every month in the conference room located at the rear entrance of the Pro-Action building, 117 E. American Red Cross course schedule An adult CPR/AED course will be held Dec. 18 from 6- 10 p.m. The course will teach rescue breathing, first aid for choking, and CPR. The cost of this course is $40. Traumatic brain injury A Taumatic Brain Injurty Support Group meeting will be held the third Monday of every month from 5:30-7 p.m in the conference room, rear entrance of Pro-Action building, 117 E. Coping with Cancer Coping with Cancer, a free four part educational series, will proved information regarding causes, treatments, financial and emotional implications. The forth educational program in the series, "Social and Emotional Side of Cancer," will be presented by the Wellness Council of the Southern Tier. The program will be held at 7 p.m. December 6 at the Centenary United Methodist Church, 3 West Washington Street, Bath. All are welcome; there is no charge for attending. For more information contact Patricia Lauzze at 776- 2289. 55 Alive Driving Course The 55 Alive Driving Course for adults ages 50 and over. The two-day course will be held from 1-5 p.m. Dec. 13 and 15 in the St. James Mercy Hospital's Memorial Conference room. Participants who complete the 8-hour classroom refresher course may receive a 10% discount on their auto insurance for three years and points may be taken off their license. HIV and sexually transmitted disease clinics The Steuben County Public Health and Nursing Services sponsors free HIV and Sexually transmitted Disease Clinics, by appointment only, as follows: From 9-11 a.m. Dec. 7 and 21 at the Steuben County Public Health and Nursing Services Clinic Rooms, County Office Building, 3 E. Pulteney Square, Bath. These clinic services are available to all residents of Steuben County for HIV counseling and testing and for diagnosing and treating venereal diseased which include Gonorrhea, Chlamydia, an d Trichomonas.
