Marjorie H. Herrick GREENWOOD — Marjorie H. Herrick, 90 years old formerly of Greenwood, entered into rest at the Hornell Gardens Nursing Facility in Hornell, on Monday, December 4, 2006 following a long illness. Marjorie was born on January 8, 1916 in Robinson, Illinois. She was a daughter of Norman and Freda Pearl Wilcox Allen. On November 1, 1934 in the town of West union she married Harlie K. Herrick who died on May 28, 1992. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Smith and brothers Stewart, Kenneth and Max Allen. Marjoire and Harlie lived for several years in the town of West Union and moved to Greenwood in 1972. She had worked as a cook at the Greenwood Hotel for 10 years; the Foote Nursing Home in Canisteo for 5 years; in food service at SUNY of Alfred for 9 1/2 years and also at the Greenwood Central School cafeteria. Marge was a life member of the Greenwood American Legion Auxiliary where she had served as Vice President. Cooking was Marjorie’s joy and making peanut brittle during the months November and December was an annual event. Marge is survived by her two sons, Leroy (Luella) Herrick of Alfred Stateion and Gordon (Elizabeth) Herrick of Ocala, Florida; her four daughters, Lillian (Leon) Russo of Hornell, Janice (Howard) Buhlmann of East Bloomfield, Nancy (Bernard) Haynes of Shinglehouse, Pennsylvania and Shirley Herrick of Bath; her brother, Ralph (Erma) Allen of Wellsville; her sisters, Harriett Banks of Florida, Mary (Howard) Banks of Arizona and Ida Holt of Batavia; 10 grandchildren; several great grand children, ni e c e s and nephews. The family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. and 7- 9 p.m. on Monday, December 11 at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 12. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery, Greenwood. The family requests that memorials in Marjorie Herrick’s name be made to either to the Ambulance Fund of the Greenwood Fire Dept. c/o Mason Burdick Greenwood, New York 14839 or to the Activities Fund of the Hornell Gardens Nursing Home, 434 Monroe Ave. Hornell, New York 14843. |
