Gateway to Fingerlakes shouldn’t lose history To the Editor, I am a local farmer and businessman following in the footsteps of my father, Lisle Hopkins. I’ve spent my entire life here in Bath and graduated from Haverling High School after having attended elementary grades on the Dana L. Lyon site. What makes Bath special in Steuben County is not only the fact that it is the county seat and the site of the first settlement (1792) at Pulteney Park, but also because it has always been a beautiful place in which to live. We are the gateway to the Finger Lakes and history abounds all round us. I’m proud of my hometown and I want it to retain its small village appearance. To even suggest the demolition of our old school is an abomination. I am a member of the grass-roots preservation corporation called “the Save-The-Lyon Commission, Inc.” and I implore all of my neighbors and associates to vociferously protest this senseless destruction of historic surroundings.
