Garbage along local roads is distressing
To the Editor,

I am a native here in upstate New York, and moved to Colorado for sometime and have recently moved back home. I have to say, I’m getting distressed about the amount of garbage and litter thrown on the roads here in our beautiful area we call home.

To the person who continues to throw bags of garbage on Williams Road in Prattsburgh, please stop. Firstly, it is illegal. (Don’t we have laws re: littering and why are our “trusted servants” not enforcing them?)

Secondly, there is recycling available in Prattsburgh on the first Saturday of each month for all of your cat food cans and empty whisky bottles. Most towns offer this service.

Thirdly, your neighbors, including me, don’t want to look at your litter, it’s eye pollution. Let alone spend my free time picking up your mess. What’s going on here in beautiful upstate New York?

Everyone, please help by doing your part in not littering and by picking up garbage whenever possible. Another consideration: what are we teaching our kids? (Re: littering and recycling within the family and at school.) If we took as much pride in keeping our beautiful countryside and communities litter free, as we do our local sports teams we would have something to “crow” about. Please help with monitoring our littering neighbors, I know that I’m not the only one saddened by this “unconscious, slovenly behavior.”

Sunday I picked up half a jug of antifreeze on Williams Road. Isn’t this dangerous and poisonous to humans and animals? Shame on you.
