Community rallies to family’s aid
The campaign is spearheaded by Bath residents Robert Ainsworth, Joe Baroody and Bard McDowell. Ainsworth, a long-time counselor for the Haverling school district, coached Zachary as a cross country runner. “He was a dedicated runner,” Ainsworth said. This was Zach’s first year on the team, and his parents were so proud of his participation. Even when the season was over, he’d come back and work out with the varsity team.” Ainsworth said the Hann family has minimal health insurance and is facing huge medical costs related to the accident that killed Zachary. Three siblings of Zachary were also in the car, and two suffered serious injuries. “These people need the help of this community,” Ainsworth said. The fund raising already has resulted in an anonymous donation of $1,000, he added. All checks should be made out to Michael Hann, although they should be sent to Ainsworth, Baroody or McDowell at their respective addresses: 6841 Lake Salubria Drive; 10 Robie St. and 208 Washington St. Zachary Hann died when the vehicle in which he was passenger crashed on Wheeler Road in Howard. (See story and obituary on page 15). His sister, Megan A. Hann, 22, suffered a neck fracture, and his brother, Jacob Hann, 16, suffered facial and head injuries. A twin brother, Caleb Hann, suffered abrasions. The Hann family lives on Chamberlain Road in the Town of Bath. Michael Hann is a farmer and served from 2004 to 2005 as deputy supervisor for the town. |
