Rotarians briefed on new Family Resource Center

BATH — Haverling school Superintendent Marion Tunney recently introduced guest speakers Melissa Matthews, a third grade teacher at Haverling, and Jeannie Gallagher, a social worker with the school district, who spoke about the new Bath Area Family Resource Center.

The center was formed to help families in the Steuben County area make successful parenting choices. It works closely with three other centers and ProAction to offer special programs on topics of interest to families. It is a very busy “drop-in” center in the Vernon E. Wightman Elementary School.

Tunney also related how the hall outside the center was lined with “double parked” baby carriages recently.

The success of the center has a created a need for a full time director. Currently, the center is staffed with volunteers. Both Matthews and Gallagher encouraged Rotarians to become involved.
