BATH — Bath Haverling’s Cody Hutcheson earned his 100th win as the Rams dropped Honeoye Falls-Lima 66-3 at home Thursday, Dec. 21.
Hutcheson, a sophomore who has wrestled since the seventh grade, pinned Dave Melink in 1:35 in the 152- pound weight class matchup to pick up the milestone.
“I’m very happy for him,” said Bath head coach Jim Fowler. “He’s worked hard and he’s coming back from a shoulder injury.”
Hutcheson looked fine as he recorded a takedown, which he converted into his pinning combination.
Speaking of happy, Fowler was pleased with his entire team’s performance.
“Everyone wrestled well today,” he said of his 3-0 squad. “Even in the match we lost, it was close and I was happy with his performance.”
In that match, the Cougars’ Tom Riley came up with a reversal with 20 seconds remaining in the match to overtake Tyler Hutcheson by a 5-4 decision. Hutcheson, an eighth grader, nearly scored a reversal himself, but time expired before he gained position.
Three Rams recorded firstperiod pins, led by Zach Simons’ win in 1:23 at 171
pounds. At 96 pounds, Kyle Conrad needed another second to down his opponent. Billy Crowe’s match at 125 pounds was over in 1:48.
Also recording pins for Bath were Jacob Harrison (103), Nate Uram (140) and Nick Uram (189). Nick Uram’s pin came at the 4:41 mark.
The Rams dominated several of their decision victories, as well.
Richie Prescott shut out Jeremiah Denise 11-0 at 160 pounds, even after both wrestlers failed to score a point in the opening period. Prescott scored a reversal and near-fall in the second period, then closed the third with three straight nearfalls. Isaac Kulz and Emery Albers posted 13-2 wins for Bath. Kulz, wrestling at 112 pounds scored five points in each of the first two periods to grab the advantage, while Albers (135) scored three takedowns, a reversal and a pair of near-falls in his match.
Also scoring decision victories for the Rams were Travis Reber (119), Sean Daly (130) and Richie Prescott (160).
Bath will be tested Saturday when it competes in a dual meet at McQuaid against McQuaid and Penfield.
“It will be a tough weekend,” Fowler said. “We will be able to gauge where we are as we look ahead to some tough Livingston County matches.”
