Bath's Ducharme reported walking
By ROB PRICE THE COURIER-ADVOCATE

ATLANTA, GA. - Ray Ducharme, the 1993 Haverling graduate who was gravely injured during a Spanish fiesta last year, is making significant progress in his recovery, according to a website maintained by his family.

Ducharme was initially paralyzed when a steer threw him during the historic Pamplona festival held early in July. Following surgery in Spain, during which two fractured vertebrae were repaired, the Bath native was airlifted to his home in Charlotte, N.C. for convalescence and physical therapy. He is an employee of Bank of America.

"Ray is out of his chair!" the website pray4ray announced on Jan. 3. "Ray bypassed the crutches and went straight to canes. ... It's been over a week since he used his wheel chair."

Initial reports of Ducharme's injury indicated he may never walk again. Ducharme required breathing assistance in the aftermath of the accident, and suffered from a variety of secondary problems related to the cracked spine.

He continues to undergo physical therapy.
