Fire damages house A fire early Friday damaged a residence located at 110 Robie St. in Bath. No injuries were reported, although the house sustained some fire, smoke and water damage. Bath volunteer firefighters were called to the blaze at 12:18 a.m. after a person driving by the residence called in an alarm. Bath village police were first on the scene and attacked the flames with fire extinguishers. Additional assistance came from Hammondsport, Kanona, Savona and the Bath VA, while Avoca was placed on standby. The fire was confined to the front porch area of the house, which is owned by the Rev. Brad Benson of St. Thomas Episcopal Church. The Rev. Benson was not at home at the time of the fire, which apparently was started by a flood light placed on the front porch against the siding of the house. Firefighters were back in service at 3:18 a.m. |
