Donald L. Roberts
CAMPBELL - Donald L. Roberts, age 86, of Campbell passed away Saturday, December 30 at Bath VA Medical Center, Bath.

Mr. Roberts was born March 9, 1920 in Boston Corners, the son of the late Philip and Nellie (Rossiter) Roberts. He married Helen M. Beaujon on October 9, 1948.

Donald graduated from the Roeliff-Jansen High School in Hillsdale. He then graduated from Drake University and Ithaca College with degrees in Music Education. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and served as an infantryman in Germany. Music was Donald's passion. In his college and post- college years he was in Big Bands. He retired in 1980 from Campbell Central School, where he was the music teacher for thirty-five years. He was a member of the Campbell United Methodist Church where he was the choir director for thirty years. Donald was also an active member of the Lions Club and the director of its variety show for several years. He played in the North Port Community Band, The Venice Community Band, and with the Plantation Dinner Dance Band while wintering in Florida during his retirement years. He also took part in the historical event of the Echo Taps. Donald continued to play his trumpet while he was a patient at the VA. Before and after his retirement he also had a very active piano tuning business, which took him throughout the Southern Tier and locally in Florida.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Helen M. Roberts; two daughters: Charlene R. Roberts of Atlanta, Georgia, Susan M. Roberts of Richmond, Virginia; two sons: Philip C. Roberts of Rome, Jeffrey S. Roberts of Atlanta, Georgia; Grandson, Sidney C. Roberts of Rome; Granddaughter, Brittney A. Roberts of Stockbridge, Georgia; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Donald was predeceased by his seven brothers and sisters.

Calling hours were held Wednesday, January 3 from 2- 4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at

Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 17 W. Pulteney St., Corning, NY.

A Memorial Service was held Thursday, January 4 at 11 a.m. at the Campbell United Methodist Church, 8516 Main St., Campbell with Pastor Betty Bement and Rev. Fay Cleveland officiating.

Burial was held Friday, January 5 in Union Cemetery, in Ovid, with Rev. K. Wayne Butler.
