Village appearance is improving Letter to the editor Ending a year is always a good time to evaluate that year and mention the good things that happened. The Village of Bath has been looking really nice lately and there are many people who have helped with the effort. Bath Gas and Electric put up those many tree lights that make it so pretty at night. The Village crew has done a great job with leaf pickup, plowing, street repairs and the use of the street sweeper. The job is never ending and often thankless. The Bath Beautification Committee gets help from the village in getting the planters ready for flowers and putting the barrels and pole planters in place. We are even provided with a watering truck to keep the flowers healthy. In turn, we try to help the village when we water the plants by picking up trash and keeping up with Pulteney Park. We thought the flowers looked especially nice this year. Appreciation also goes to the judges who assign community service and that helps with keeping the town looking good. Thanks to the business people who keep their places tidy. Bath has many visitors all year round and it makes people feel welcome. Bath has many new businesses and we would hope they would be supported for their efforts and commended for their confidence in our village. Now, what can we do with the condition of the big store parking lots and the areas around them? They need a good and continual clean up. I mean K-Mart, P&C, Save-a-lot, The Bath Building lot with Family Dollar, Fashion Bug, Rent-a-Center and Cellular One. I certainly know that it is tough to keep up, but I would hope for more pride and feeling of being part of the village. Realtors everywhere say that for properties to hold their value, towns need to appreciate and keep up older homes and to keep our towns and villages clean. Nice job, everyone who picks up litter, puts their cigarette butts where they belong, and supports everyone's efforts to make and keep Bath a nice place to live. Mary-Ann Robinson Bath |
