Legion Auxiliary

The American Legion Auxiliary of Unit 173 meets every second Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the Charles Wescott Post on William Streeet in Bath.

SPCA donations

The Finger Lakes SPCA is requesting area residents to continue donating returnable cans and bottles to the shelter on State Route 54. The recyclable materials are a significant source of income for the SPCA.

Volunteers also are needed to assist in the delivery of returnable materials to recycling centers and in walking dogs and cleaning facilities. For further information, call 776-3039. Parking permits available

Bath Village Police Chief David K. Rouse reports that Bath Village Parking Permits for the year 2007 are now abailable. Permit holders pay $10 per month and may park in the Municipal lot or at 10 hour parking meter locations. Permits are sold at the Bath Police Department. Exploring Credit/Debt Issues

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Steuben County Consumer and Financial Management Education Program is offering an Exploring Credit/Debt Issues Workshop from 1-3 p.m. Jan. 20 at the Wayland Free Library, W. Naples St., Wayland.

Nancy Reigelsperger, Extension Educator, will help participants explore ways to establish good credit, how to make wise choices when evaluating credit offers, understanding a credit report and how to fix inaccurate information, ways to improve one's credit worthiness, and strategies for paying down debt.

Class size is limited therefore pre-registration is requested by calling 664-2300. Ruminant health workshop

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Steuben County will host a small ruminant health workshop Jan. 22 at the Civil Defense Center in Bath from 7-9 p.m.

Productive animals are the key to any profitable farm operation. Dr. Glenn Fahnestock, a former producer and veterinarian, will discuss how to keep small ruminants healthy and productive by focusing on prevention. Sheep and goat producers will learn how to improve the bottom line of their farm business with healthy animals. Whether you own a single sheep or a large herd of goats

you will find this discussion full of valuable information.

Topics to be addressed:

+ Treating sheep and goats for common illness & metabolic disorders

Cornell Cooperative Extension will present Save Energy, Save Dollars workshop which will help participants explore ways to reduce energy bills through no cost/low cost conservation ideas.The free workshops are being held at the Dormann Library Jan. 30, from 6-8 p.m. Steuben County Dairy Day

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Steuben County announces the return of the annual Steuben County Dairy Day on Jan. 17. Dairy Day will be held at the Presbyterian Church in Bath, on Pulteney Square, from 10 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. The focus this year will be on increasing profitability through low investment, high return management opportunities on dairy farms. Dairy Day will also feature numerous exhibitors from the dairy industry. Ample time will be given to attendees to visit with the exhibitors and other dairy producers.

Meet the author

Robert E. Yott will be at the Steuben County Historical Society in Bath on Tuesday, January 23 from 1-3 p.m. to sign copies of his new book "From Soldiers' Home to Medical Center: A Glance at the 125 Year History of the Bath Soldiers' Home". Mr. Yott, an Army veteran, and Civil War enthusiast, has long been fascinated with the history of the Home; this is his second book on the subject.

There will be a one case exhibit on the Soldiers' Home in the Society's Reading Room. It will be centered around the Book of General Orders for the period Sept. 1884 - April 1888. Written orders were issued almost daily in this quasi-military establishment; they often referred to named individuals. Subjects included the daily schedule of events, admission to the Home, assignment of duties, promotions in rank, furloughs, punishments and discharges. The Clerk, who meticulously recorded each order, developed the habit of decorating the book with elaborate calligraphy, including scrolls, banners, ribbons, and eagles with flags. The exhibit will be up through May 1. The other exhibits at Magee House will also be open to view. The Society is at 1 Conhocton St., Bath, directly behind the Dormann Library on West Morris St. It is open to the public weekdays (except holidays) from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Martin Luther King Ceremony

The Bath VA Medical Center will host the annual Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. observance at 1 p.m. Jan. 15 in the Union Chapel with a celebration of the life and dream of a man of faith, leadership and courage.

The Friendship Baptist Church in Corning will present the service and Reverend Covington will be guest speaker. Participating in the service will be the choir from Friendship Baptist.

The community is welcome to attend and will be given an opportunity to share the impact of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to their life. Single Adult

Fellowship dance

Single Adult Fellowship will present a dance at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 20 featuring live music by Kaye Band at the First Presbyterian Methodist Church, Painted Post. The dance is open to all divorced, widowed, separated or never married. Must be 21 years of age. GST Boces course catalog

A sheep and goat health meeting will be held from 7-9 p.m. Jan. 22 at the Civil Defense Center in Bath. The event will feature Dr. Glenn Fahnestock, Eastview Veterinary Clinic. Topic include common illness/ disorders in sheep and goats, vaccination recommendations, and treating sheep

and goats for metabolic disorders, worms, and other common ailments.

AAUW meeting

The Bath Branch of AAUW will host a visiting scholar from the New York State Council on the Humanities at a public meeting at 7:15 p.m. March 6 at the Steuben Health Facility.

Dr. Sally Roesch Wagner will discuss research on the influence of the Iroquois (Haudenosaunee) on Early American Women's Rights, and respond to questions and comments. The meeting is free to the public.

MDA Casino Day

American Twin Harley- Davidson will hold their First Annual Casino Day for MDA from 3-9 p.m. Feb. 17 at the Marconi Lodge of Corning, 26 W. Pulteney Street, Corning. $20 donation per ticket. Tickets are available at American Twin Harley- Davidson, Bridge Street, Corning. Proceeds to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association of South Central

New York State.

Neighborhood Watch

The Bath Neighborhood Watch Organization will be holding their monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Jan. 17. The meeting will be held in the village board room at the Municiple building. Refreshments will be provided. All are encouraged to attend. Communicating problems?

The Center for Dispute Settlement is offering a free service to Steuben County residents to help with communication skills. The service is for residents under the age of 21. Services are confidential and a neutral person is available to help individuals.

H-port board meeting

Hammondsport Central School will hold their Regular Board of Education Meeting at 7 p.m. Jan. 17 in the Main Street School library.
