+ A New Year's Dinner was enjoyed January 9th at the United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall when Louise and Lewis Webster were hosts for the dish to pass meal. Following the meal, World War 2 veteran Dick Falvey discussed his trip to the Air Force Academy which, as always, pleased the crowd.

+ The Practical Nursing Program offered by the Greater Southern Tier BOCES which allows men and women to earn an LPN by taking l,200 hours of classroom instruction and related experience at local hositals, long-term facilities and other health-related agencies will begin a three evenings per week and every other Saturday training. July 10, 2007, at their training center at Coopers Education Center, Painted Post. The program will quality students to take the N Y S L i c e n s i n g Examination. Hundreds of students from all over Steuben County and neighboring places have successfully taken the course and are now Licensed Practical Nurses working their trade in hospitals, and other long term health facilities. Financial help is available for qualified applicants. One a high school diploma or GED to apply. They are invited to call for more information at 607-654- 2261 or 607-962-3175, extention 261. Ski and Snowboard Club News: There will be an all day ski trip January

l5, leaving from high school at 8:30am; returning at 5pm requiring two lift tickets and two rental tickets. All first year members in grades 5-12 must take at least 4 lessons and wear the Hammondsport Ski Hat It is recommended take at least one lesson on the first trip. All students must meet academic eligibility to ride the bus. Also on Monday, January l5, Billy Martin's Cole All Star Circus will be at the High School Gym at 7:00pm, Two students under l2 will be admitted free with adult ticket purchasel. Adult Purse is $8.00 in advance, $12.00 at the door. Tickets for students under l2 will be $5.00. Friday, January l9, a bus leaves from high school at 3:30am, returns at 5:00pm. The Bus will be in the back of the school,leaving at 3:00pm, returningat 5:00pm. Ski equiptment may be left in the hallway outside the boys' lockers.

+ Among other places reporting being closed in the area for Martin Luther King Day includes the Magee House, the Steuben County History Center in near-by Bath.

+ The Hammondsport area Red Hats will be having a luncheon at Bath's Sonora Restaurant at the Bath's Days Inn, Friday noon, the l9th. Make reservations with Mary Nesbit, 776-5135.

+ The Hammondsport Chamber of Commerce and friends have taken down the holiday decorations and thanks all who assisted. Last Tuesday morning the village awakened to the first actual "real" snowstorm of the new year! The 2007 officers will be announced soon after going before the Board this Tuesday, the l6th.

+ Bostwick Club meets Saturday, the 20th,6:30pm in the fellowship hall of the Masons where Ed and Ann Vought will be hosts assisted by the Elwoods, Hutches, Domras' Shirleys' and Turners.

+ The Glenn Curtiss Museum of Local History reminds its friends and members that the l6th Annual Miniatures/Dollhouse Exhibit opened there November l7, 2006, has just one more week since its clos ing day is January 21, 2007.

+ St. Gabriel's Catholic Church: Those members of the parish who did not purchase the choir of St.Mary's CDs of its beautiful Christmas music, featuring some original compositions by

returnables outside the back of the parish house next to the garbage cans. We get nickels for returnable ones and pass them along to Turning Point, a program of Catholic Charities of Steuben County that helps people in need in our community. As of December 3, 2006, your generosity in so doing amounted to $l201.65 plus? Remember, it was only three days at the beginning of the month!

+ St. James Episcopal Church: This morning, January l4, Bishop McKelvey will be making his annual visit to us for the 9:00am Holy Eucharist. Lay people helping Rector Curtis on 2nd Epiphany are Chalice: C. Skinner; Acolytes: J. Grillo; Readers: J. Skinner, S. Pulver; Ushers: B Frey, R. Frey. Next Sunday, January 21 will be the Sunday marking the annual meeting. It will take place after a pot-luck brunch following the morning service, 'At that time, Vestry persons, Warden and a Delagate to Convention will be elected. there will also be reports from from different programs of the church, and a report on the budget adopted by the Vestry. Their "Shortfall" as printed in the December Newsletter was $10,l04. At that time it suggested "A Step Up" or 20% increase in worshipers weekly gift would help us "Go and Grow!"

+ First Presbyterian Church of Pulteney and Hammondsport. The former Interim at both churches, the Rev. Fred Magley of Canandaigua who served several years ago before the last minister and his wife left the area to be nearer their three children in the Carolinas, will again be in the pulpit for a couple of weeks until the present interim is fully recovered from her recent surgery.
