Homelessness survey planned for region

BATH - If you think homelessness is a big city problem, think again.

Starting Jan. 25 and ending Jan. 31, a count of the homeless will extend across Chemung, Steuben and Allegany counties.

The goal of the "Point-in- Time" study, planned by private and public human service agencies in the region, is to help these agencies understand the level of need within the region for programs and services that target the homeless. The information gathered will be used to design a plan to address the problem of homelessness in the region.

Study coordinators are currently seeking volunteers to participate in the effort by surveying individuals and families who utilize emergency shelters, soup kitchens, drop in centers, and other similar services. Survey sites are still available in Allegany, Chemung, and Steuben Counties. Further information and training is available.

Interested individuals or groups should contact: Bill Caudill at the Institute for Human Services: 607-776- 9467 ext 217; or at the e-mail address: caudillb@ihsnet.org
