Flood light blamed for Bath house fire BATH - An early morning fire Friday, Jan. 5, destroyed the porch of a Robie Street residence, owned by the St. Thomas Episcopal Church. A passerby reported the fire around 12:20 a.m. Friday, and when fire crews arrived, the front porch was engulfed in flames. Bath police were the first to arrive at the scene and battled the blaze with extinguishers. The Bath Fire Department then battled the fire with help from the Hammondsport, Kanona, Savona and Bath VA Center fire departments. The porch was destroyed and portions of the home suffered water and smoke damage. According to fire officials, the fire started when a timed flood light went on and the porch siding caught fire. The Rev. Brad Benson, who lives at the residence, was not home when the fire started. No one was injured. |
