+ The Hammondsport Rotary Club met recently at the Park Inn. Guest speaker was Doris Zimmerman, talking on the Scouting activities in the Hammondsport area. January 22nd, tomorrow, the Hammondsport Central School marking period ends for 2006-2007 school year; GBB (H); On the 24th there is GBB@CG, BBB (H); on the 25 of the month wrestling (H), BMBB at Canaseraga; the 26, report cards go home, and January 27, Senior High All County Band auditions, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Wrestly at Newark Tournament; Cheer at Greater Rochester.

+ A little while before Christmas this year, there was an assembly with students, staff and parents to recognize the 4th, 5th, and 6th graders at the Curtiss Elementary School who exhibit positive classroom behavior, are hard working, conscientious and try to be successful, and are a schoolcommunity "helper" or a "good neighbor." They each received Steuben County's Good Citizenship Award Certificate and a monetary award to be spent as needed. At the awards to

present the above were Katherine A. Biehl, Commissioner of Social Services and Gary Pruyn, of the Steuben County Youth Bureau. Honored students are Michael Bestys, Carrington Ellis, Brian Kilbury, Kirklin Koseba, Jessica Lawrence, and Aubrey Miller. The school, parents, and community are proud of them.

+ The Peace Weavers at Thunder Mountain have many and varied activities they enoy and would be happy to share in 2007. Among them are: Talking Stick Circle evening. Come for an evening of listening and sharing from their hearts. There is also Full Moon Ceremonies each full moon evenings; Fun Night of honor Grandmas; snacks, desserts, pot luck suppers and more. + The long awaited history of the Bath Soldiers' Home is finally on sale at the following places: The Curtiss Museum, Betty Kay Bake Shop, The Magee House, MJ Ward & Son,

Inc.; Longs' Bookstore. The very interesting story of how a group of Civil War Veterans (The Grand Army of the Republic) founded the New York State Soldiers; and Sailors Home. The book covers triumphs and scandals of its unique 125 plus year history. It all so has 200 pages with 150 photos, going for $17.95 but has a limited supply. For more information call: 776-0709.

+ Hammondsport latest restaurant, Darsi's, 8465 State Rd. #54, opendd for breakfasts and lunches in December, Mon.-Fri. 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Sat.-Sun. 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. It has special packages for Holidays, Birthdays, and Special Occasions. There is also a pool table and an arcade full of video games. The family just recently moved to Hammondsport, and Darsi's husband knowing she'd always wanted a restaurant, gave it to her on her birthday. She says the people of Hammondsport have been very nice to her family, she loves the village and wants to give something back to them. When a satisfied visitor said to her, "This is a hard time of the year to open any business,

but the summer time brings a lot of tourists." She replied, "I just want to thank Hammondsport for their kindness shown to us since moving here. I did it for them and I'll be fine."

+ Today, January 21 is the last day of the 2006-07 Annual Miniatures and Doll House Exhibit which opened for the first time in 1996 at Curtiss Museum in the late fall as it still continues to do. It is a marvelous place to take guests and family, especially with children at holiday time.

+ Much to the credit of the efforts of Clarence Sebring of Dundee, and help from the Museum's Restoration Shop winter crew, they have a new mechanical flight stimulator. This sevice was first used last October with a high school aviation class from Niagara Wheatfield High School in the Buffalo area. Jon Baldwin of the Education Dept. at the Museum reported. Norman Brush explained the operation of the simulator to the class and Baldwin. Norm Utech (A licensed pilot) was

the first to "fly" the simulator.

+ There will be a blood bank, Thursday, January 25, from 12 noon until 6 p.m. Call Eleanor Sample for an appointment.

Church news:

+ St. Gabriel's Catholic Church: A new law allows those people who are required to take mandatory IRA withdrawals to donate them to charity and save taxes on the withdrawal. If interested, please contact the parish office for more information. Also if anyone would like to make a donation of stock to the parish, the office will be happy to provide they necessary information to facilitate such a gift.

+ St. James Episcopal Church: Today, following 9 a.m. Holy Eucharist and Sunday School, and a potluck brunch, the annual meeting takes place at 10 a.m. Monday, the 22, there is Book Study at the

Rectors home, at 7 p.m.; at the church at 7:30p.m., Al- Anon. Tues, the 23 at 3 p.m. and Sat. the 27 at 11 a.m., the Food Pantry opens. At 7 p.m. Tues, Bible Study at Rectors. Fri, the 26 at the Rectors is the 6 p.m. Movie Night beginning with a dish to pass supper. Movie to be seen then discusses is: The Gospel of John. Beverage, dishes provided.

+ First United Methodist Church: Contempory service at 8:30 a.m.; Traditional at 11 a.m. 5th Sundays, Combined Service. Junior Church and Nursery Sunday School at 9:45 a.m.

+ Presbyterian church of Hammondsport: 11 a.m.; Pulteney: 9:30 a.m. Rev. Fred Magley, Canandaigue, current Interim. Regular Interim, Re v. Anne Waasdorf, has gone to her daughter's home in Korea, and will be taken to the beach for a holiday to build up following surgery the day after Christmas, 2006.
