Legion Auxiliary

The American Legion Auxiliary of Unit 173 meets every second Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the Charles Wescott Post on William Streeet in Bath.

SPCA donations

The Finger Lakes SPCA is requesting area residents to continue donating returnable cans and bottles to the shelter on State Route 54. The recyclable materials are a significant source of income for the SPCA.

Volunteers also are needed to assist in the delivery of returnable materials to recycling centers and in walking dogs and cleaning facilities. For further information, call 776-3039. GST Boces course catalog

The winter/spring course catalog for GST Boces Adult Education and Training programs is now available. The catalog contains descriptions of the more than 265 courses offered, including career training, online and leisure courses and trips.

AAUW meeting

The Bath Branch of AAUW will host a visiting scholar from the New York State Council on the Humanities at a public meeting at 7:15 p.m. March 6 at the Steuben Health Facility.

Dr. Sally Roesch Wagner will discuss research on the influence of the Iroquois (Haudenosaunee) on Early American Women's Rights, and respond to questions and comments. The meeting is free to the public.

MDA Casino Day

American Twin Harley- Davidson will hold their First Annual Casino Day for MDA from 3-9 p.m. Feb. 17 at the Marconi Lodge of Corning, 26 W. Pulteney Street, Corning. $20 donation per ticket. Tickets are available at American Twin Harley-Davidson, Bridge Street, Corning. Proceeds to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association of South Central New York State. Communicating problems?

The Center for Dispute Settlement is offering a free service to Steuben County residents to help with communication skills. The service is for residents under the age of 21. Services are confidential and a neutral person is available to help individuals.

Documentary film

St. Thomas' Episcopal Church will host a free showing of the documentary film An Inconvenient Truth on Monday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. at the St. Thomas' Episcopal Church, 122 Liberty Street, Bath. The film is 95 minutes long and was created by Al Gore and gives the audience an introduction to global warming. No formal discussion is planned. The building is handicap-accessible.

The Sam Pallet Band and the Corning Area Community Concert Band will play music for dancing and listening from 7-10 p.m. Feb. 14 at the Corning Museum of Glass auditorium. A raffle will take place during the evening. All proceeds will be given to The Salvation Army. Beverages and snack food will be available for purchase. Seating will be at tables, and there will be a spacious dance floor. Music will include classic rock/pop, swing, latin, waltzes and polkas.

The Hammondsport American Legion Auxiliary Unit 0407 will meet at 2 p.m. of the first Sunday every month at The Hammondsport American Legion, Rt. 54. Texas Hold Em Tournaments

The West End Gallery Artists will hold a "Little Gems - A collection of miniature paintings" on the first floor and "Director's Choice" on the second floor from Feb. 9 to March 16 at The West End Gallery, 12 W. Cornell Cooperative Extension of Steuben County will host an Equine Nutrition meeting from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Feb. 24 at the Civil Defense Center, Bath.

Elise Able, quine nutritional representative with Blue Seal Feeds, will discuss equine nutrition for special needs horses. The regional NYS veterinarian will also present a brief presentation on national Animal Identification and the New York State Horse Health Assurance Program.

Lunch will be provided by Blue Seal Feeds. A $5 per person donation is requested to benefit Cornell Cooperative Extension and the 4-H horse program (fee waived for youth.) Spaghetti dinner

The American Legion Baseball Teams will hold a spaghetti dinner from 5-7 p.m. Feb. 17 at the Legion Post 746, 145 Walnut St., Corning. There is a $5 donation per person. The dinner is sponsored by the Baseball Teams and will benefit for uniforms, equipment, etc. Take outs will be available at 936-9658.

St. James Episcopal Church in Hammondsport will hold a chicken and biscuit dinner from 4-6:30 p.m. Feb. 17. The menu will include chicken, biscuit and gravy with mashed potatoes, vegetable, salad, dessert, beverage, and a complimentary glass of wine. The cost for the dinner is $6 for adults, $3 for children of ages 3-12 and free for children 3 years of age and younger. Take outs will be available. The event will be chaired by Nancy French. Village of Bath Housing Authority Board

The Village of Bath Housing Authority Board will meet at 4 p.m. the forth Monday of every month (except where a Holiday occures, then it will be held the week before.) The next meeting will be held on March 26. Dormann Library Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees of the Dormann Library will hold their next monthly meeting at 5 p.m. Feb. 12 in the Empire Room of the Library Building at 101 West Morris Street. Bath.

A Family-Friendly open house will be held from 6-8 p.m. Feb. 15 at SE Steuben Co. Library, 300 Nasser Civic Center Plaza (next to skating rink.) Children must have an adult present with them. Events for adults consist of free blood pressure check, food stamp eligibility prescreen, free income tax preparation (no appt. needed), free book with new Library card, building tours, and refreshments, compliments of Wegmans. Corning Community College's Small Business Development Center offers free and confidential counseling to start-up, existing and home-based businesses. Help is available on business plans, start-up steps, loan requirements, cash flow projections, sources of funding, record keeping, marketing, hiring employees, and the certification process as a woman or minority-owned business.

2007 tax couseling The Office for the Aging, in conjunction with AARP, will offer income tax assistance to Steuben County residents at no cost. Tax assistance for the Bath area is as follows

+ From 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 13 at the VA Medical Center, Room C105, Section 1, Building 104 (for residents only.)

Make sure to bring any pertinent papers and a copy of last year's returns (if available), and blank tax forms if possible.

Family Movie Night

The Dormann Library will host its Family Movie Night at 7 p.m. Feb. 16 at the library, 101 W. Morris St., Bath. The movie is "High School: The Musical," rated G. All are welcome

Lenten fish fry

The Cooper Plains Baptist Church will hold their first Lenten fish fry from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Feb. 23 at the church. The menu consists of fish, choice of macaroni and cheese or French fries, cole slaw, roll and butter and beverage. The price is $6.50 for regular dinner, $5 for half portion and $1 for pie. Take outs will be available.

Chicken biscuit dinner

The Corning VFW Post will sponsor a chicken buscuit dinner for the benefit of the Greater Steuben Chapter American Red Cross Youth

Program. The dinner will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m. March 8 at the VFW, 281 Baker Street. The cost is $6 per person and take outs will be available.

Tickets will be available at the door or from the American Red Cross, 123 W. Market St., Corning. All proceeds will benefit the Greater Steuben Chapter American Red Cross youth programs.

Children events

The Dormann Library will hold two events for children in K-grade 5 during mid-winter break week.

Pirate Day will be held from 1-2:30 p.m. Feb. 21. Events will consist of stories, songs, games

and crafts. Snacks will be available.

Pirate Movie Day will be held from 1-2:30 p.m. Feb. 23. The movie will be Walt Disney's "Treasure Island." The movie is rated G. Refreshments will be available.
